I was not avoiding Bollywood: Shruti Hassan

avoiding | Bollywood | Shruti Hassan
Actress Shruti Hassan, who has made a place for herself in the southern film industry, says she was not avoiding Bollywood and commitments down south kept her busy.

Shruti made her debut in Hindi films with a cameo appearance in her father Kamal Hassan's 'Hey Ram' in 2000. She was seen in a full-fledged role in 'Luck' (2009) and then in Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji' (2011). However, both the films did not fare well at the box office.

The actress feels that she was yet to make a mark in any film industry. "I haven't made my mark anywhere. I am very young and still starting out in the industry," Shruti told.

The actress is now looking forward to the release of two Hindi films -- Prabhu Deva's 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya' and Nikhil Advani's 'D-Day'. However, Shruti said that through these films, she is not looking to make a foothold in the Hindi film industry.

“I don't know if there is any strategy that works. I was not avoiding Bollywood. I had commitments down south. I have always looked at it as Indian cinema. It just happened coincidentally that both the films are releasing together. But they are polar opposite films and characters," Shruti said. "But I will be doing more Hindi films. You will get to see me more here," she added.

Her two Bollywood films are releasing on the same day - July 19. But Shruti is not worried about it and says that it is the concern of producers. "It is always the character and the team that matters. Like in case of 'D Day' the character is strong and different. I feel this role is a guest appearance, Nikhil Advani disagrees with it," she said.

"I think it is an integral part of the film and I really wanted to do this role. In 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya' the whole love story is about us. In both the films the characters are strong," she added.

Talking about 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya', Shruti says she would like to show her real side on screen. "I think no one has ever given me a part that is close to my personality or that people known me as off-screen. I would like that to come across," she added.

In 'D Day', Shruti plays the role of a Pakistani prostitute. About her role in this action thriller, she says, "It is extremely intense, layered and complex to play and watch. I liked the part it is the youthful romantic track in the film. It is a turning point in the film." Directed by Nikhil Advani, 'D-Day' stars Arjun Rampal, Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan Khan, Sandeep Kulkarni and Huma Qureshi in the lead roles.

Ram Charan story in roadside brawl

A month and half back, people were stunned to hear reports that Ramcharan was involved in a roadside brawl at Banjara Hills with two software engineers which resulted in his bodyguards beating the two black and blue. Ramcharan later denied all those allegations and even said the two software engineers were at fault and they apologized to him. However police completely exposed Union Minister Chiranjeevi's son's version. They in a report submitted to the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on the May 5th of street fight wrote “Ram Charan had sarcastically said that the duo were only good enough to drive the car in the night and not in the busy day-time traffic.” The report was submitted to the SHRC in response to a petition filed by S A Saleem, high court lawyer who approached High it questioning why Banjara Hills police let Ramcharan scot free. Police in their report mentioned   that “There were exchanges of blows between them. At this juncture, security personnel of Chiranjeevi, who were nearby at the time of the incident, also joined in the melee and exchanged fist blows,” Nailing Ramcharan's lies that his photos were morphed, police reported “Ram Charan got down from the car and watched the incident from a distance by the side of the road in front of GVK house and left immediately,”.

Police sources say Ram Charan's Aston Martin V8 Vantage was 'obstructed' near GVK Mall rotary by a Maruti Alto in which software engineers Phaneesh of Kondapur and Kalyan of Uppal were travelling. The techies, employees of Genpact, were heading to Punjagutta from Kondapur in Kalyan's Alto. Ram Charan Teja was furious with the techies for not giving him way despite honking several times. As soon as he got a small passage, the actor steered past the Alto and intercepted it near the rotary opposite GVK Mall, where actor’s security guards also joined in.

South girls turn item girls for Bollywood

South girls | item girls | Bollywood
Leading ladies from the South are not just busy romancing the Bollywood men, but in a new trend, mana Tollywood girls are becoming the hottest picks for Hindi item numbers too. First, Shriya Saran, sizzled on the big screen in Chhamiya No. 1 from ‘Zila Ghaziabad’ and then came Priyamani, who is currently making waves for shaking a leg with Shah Rukh Khan in One, Two, Three, Four in ‘Chennai Express’. The latest Southern siren to join the Bollywood item song bandwagon is Charmme Kaur. The lady will be seen grooving with Shahid Kapoor in his forthcoming action-entertainer ‘Rambo Rajkumar’, directed by Prabhudheva.

In fact, Charmme seems to have become quite a popular choice for item numbers down South too. While she sizzled with Nagarjuna as Sakku Bai in ‘Dhamarukam’, and with Ram Charan in the track, Nellorae from ‘Naayak’ Charmme is now excited to be upping the oomph quotient on the Bollywood scene. The actress, who has already enjoyed a B-town stint with the Amitabh-starrer, ‘Bbuddah... Hoga Terra Baap’, and the Sanjay Dutt-starrer ‘Zila Ghaziabad’, says, "Prabhudheva's ‘Rambo Rajkumar’ will be my third Bollywood outing.

I worked with him in films like Pournami, Michael Madana Kamaraju... We are very good friends now and I share a great rapport with him. So, when I got a call from Prabudheva asking me to do an item number with Shahid Kapoor, I jumped at the offer. Shahid is a fantastic actor and I'm excited to be working with him," says Charmme, who is currently shooting for this special number.

Meanwhile, national award-winning actress Priyamani is still basking in the buzz of her latest item number with Bollywood's baadshah. The actress, who made her Hindi debut with ‘Raavan’ and later did RGV's ‘Rakta Charitra II’, is thrilled to be a part of the catchy number, choreographed by Raju Sundaram in Rohit Shetty's ‘Chennai Express’.

"Apparently, Rohit Shetty saw some of my South songs on YouTube and was very impressed with my performance and my dance moves. He called me one day and offered me this special song in the SRK movie. And I was happy to say yes”, says Priyamani.

Considering the South industry is becoming the toast of Bollywood, what with everyone, from our actors and directors to our movies, making a mark there, this trend doesn't come as a surprise. Charmme adds, "It is not only our South actresses making an impact there, even our technicians, filmmakers and producers are doing really well in the Hindi film industry — that's a good sign."

Echoing a similar thought, Priyamani says it's time to celebrate all things South. "It's good to see actors from here doing really well in Bollywood. After working so hard all these years in films here, it's a great experience stepping into new terrains. Moreover, working with SRK was something else!" she exclaims.

Jakkanna to end Jejemma's Career?

Rajamouli | Anushka | Baahubali
For heroes, a film offer from Rajamouli is like a ticket for five more years of career. For heroines and especially for anushka who is the heroine for ‘Bahubali’ of Rajamouli and ‘Rudramadevi’ of Gunasekahr is keeping her entire career at risk. Yes, the first look of anushka at yesterday’s audio release of ‘Singham’ has a strong truth attached on waning glamour in her body. She was observed weak with loss of freshness and effective charm in face and body.

Well, the reason behind is the pre-production works for ‘Rudramadevi’ and Bahubali.’ In order to look fit for the lead characters in these films, anushka is expected to shed as much as 10 to 15 Kgs in next one to two months. This is not an easy task because anushka whose asset has been her hourglass figure will be disturbed (or say it is already disturbed at yesterday function). If at all, audience doesn’t find her apt for bikinis and other skimpy outfits even film makers will start neglecting her. If this tragedy really happens, then ‘Bahubali’ which will release only next to ‘Rudramavdei’ could be the last film for anushka.
